Stacking Benjamins Show Appearance – Retiring Abroad

I was very excited to be asked to appear on a special episode of the Stacking Benjamins Show recently.

There aren’t many podcasts that I still listen to anymore, but I love listening to Joe, Paula, and Len on this show. It just seems like they’re having a lot of fun but with some good info presented along the way.

In case you’re wondering, the other podcasts I still regularly listen to are:

And then there’s The Clark Howard Podcast. This is the only podcast I listen to every single episode of… 5 days a week. I learn something useful in almost every show.

But back to the Stacking Benjamins Show! They decided to do something a little different for this episode where they had a round table to discuss retiring abroad… and I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate.

I met the host, Joe Saul-Sehy, at a FinCon conference a few years ago – super great guy. I believe that was the same FinCon when I randomly decided to shave my head into a Mohawk for the Halloween party to dress up like the infamous J. Money. Some great memories, my friends – great memories indeed!

So I’m glad I finally got the chance to be a part of this awesome Stacking Benjamins Show episode. Joe hosted and the round table guests were:

We, of course, had a lot of fun and jokes, but some of the topics we touched on include:

  • What attracted you to moving abroad?
  • Were you afraid of something, but realized you didn’t need to be?
  • What should you have been concerned about that you weren’t?
  • What life experiences have you gained?

And of course, Joe’s Mom’s neighbor Doug presented the all-important trivia question!

In 2019, how much did the U.S. theater industry rake in from food and beverage sales?

Think you have a pretty good guess? Have a listen and you’ll find out which of us on the show got the closest.

Or, if you just want to listen to the damn thing without having to jump through all these stupid hurdles, here you go…

This was truly a fun appearance I was able to be a part of and I’m so grateful to Joe and his team for inviting me on. I hope you enjoy the episode as well!

PS Don’t forget that there may or may not be an after-show… the part of the show that doesn’t exist. If it did exist, it would probably be at the very end after a long silence. 😉

I couldn’t remember a story about miscommunication during the after-show (if there was an after-show!). But here’s the gist (Lisa refreshed my memory)

We were in the Bahamas coming back to the resort from a casino. We took an old limo back because it was the same price as a taxi. As I always tend to do, I started making small talk with the driver who spoke with a strong Bahamian accent. I asked him about his day and he said something about being at the taxi stand.

The problem was with his accent and my having already had a few beers, I heard him say that he was in Pakistan… oops.

Instead of just letting that pass though, I enthusiastically said, “How was that?”

He was confused and said, “How was what? The taxi stand?”

Stumbling and realizing my mistake… “Yeah, the taxi stand…”

Let’s just say that it made for an awkward silence for a couple of minutes.
